Include Trendy Copper into Your Thanksgiving Tablescape: Create and Share

Hola and bienvenido!
I feel like it’s been forever since I’ve shared what’s been happening around Casa Watkins.  I was so busy with my living room makeover that the rest of the house took a backseat.  I was slowly catching up on my housework when I realized that it will be Thanksgiving next week!  Thanksgiving!!

Wasn’t it just January yesterday?  This year has passed so quickly.

It’s my favorite day of the month again, Create and Share Challenge Day!  This month was especially fun for me since it combined two of my top passions, DIY and tablescapes.  In preparation for Thanksgiving, 14 of my blogger friends and I are sharing DIY projects you can include on your Thanksgiving tablescape to wow your guests.  Be sure to visit all the great blogs listed at the end of the post.
I decided to include copper accents for a beautiful fruit and berry Thanksgiving tablescape.

Have you seen all of the copper acccents this fall?  They are everywhere.  I am a gold lover myself, but I couldn’t resist making a tablescape featuring two of hottest fall trends, copper and plaid.

I’ve been liking the copper home accents I’ve seen in stores, but didn’t want to commit to investing in many copper home accessories.  So, I decided to give a few dollar store dishes a copper makeover.

The dollar store has great pieces that are perfect for DIY trendy decorating.  You can create the latest home looks without spending too much money.  I decided to make copper serving dishes using leaf shaped plastic candy dishes from the dollar store.  There were three colors available, but I decided to go with the clear auburn colored dishes.

I sprayed the underside of each dish with two coats of copper spray paint.  Presto, chango!  Fabulous copper dishes.  Avoid spraying the inside of the dish if you plan on placing food in it.

The runner is a plaid scarf purchased from Macy’s this past weekend.  I went to New York on a girls trip and was not expecting the frigid temperatures.  Well, it was so bad we ended up going to the infamous Macy’s store in the city and shopped for winter must haves.  It’s 60 degrees in Maryland, so this scarf is going to get a bit of table action until I need to use it again.

Confession time.  This is my second tablescape design for this challenge.  I had one done Monday and it looked pretty great, but it was missing that pop of color that I love so much.  So, I went back to the drawing board and collected a few pieces from around the house and pulled together this tablescape in a matter of minutes.

You could whip up a tablescape by shopping your home too.  Then, add the dollar store copper plates.  The copper leaf plates would also make great salad plates!  Add fresh fruit like nectarines and apples in milk glass containers for a bit of nature appeal.
