Hola Amigos!

Bienvenidos to my new visitors coming over from the home tour hop.  I am so happy to have you visit.  This is my first home tour and I have to share that I was quite nervous sharing my home when it is not done yet.  Well, I don’t think anyone ever feels like their home is done, but my home has been a working progress since our kitchen fire two years ago.  I am finally decorating my home now that the kiddos are toddlers.  I have had a great time decorating and transforming our house into a home one room at a time.

My style is definitely an expression my Caribbean heritage and love of the coast.  Here is a picture from our trip to the Dominican Republic just two weeks ago.  I incorporated those great Beach/Coastal colors right into my home as soon as we returned.

It has been a journey discovering what my design style truly is.  I would describe my style as a mix of Coastal, Cottage, and Farmhouse elements.  The cozy cottage feel is a must and is infused with colorful accents.  Farmhouse elements are slowly infusing into the house.  I can’t wait to tackle the kitchen makeover and incorporate more farmhouse style.  Now, lets get to the fun part.

I recently completed a makeover of our dining room.  This room was so fun to complete since it had become a catch all for many crafting supplies.  It was great to see the room clear and free of clutter.

We used to have a big computer workstation here in the dining room.  It wasn’t used for a computer, but to store all the plates and serving dishes that I have collected.  I have a minor “collecting” issue.  My husband says its hoarding…..we will call it “collecting.” Anyway, we swapped it for the yellow buffet that was being used as a tv console.  Some knob upgrades and it turned into a colorful accent in the dining room.

You see the ginger jar on the buffet?  Can you believe that is a DIY project made from a dollar store vase?  You can read the tutorial to customize your own DIY ginger jar.

Through the dining room is the kitchen and breakfast table.  I have a small kitchen and our breakfast table takes up the majority of the space.  We still have one toddler in a high chair so that typically stays off to the side when not in use.

The heart of our home is definitely the family room.  We spend almost all of our time in this room.  We painted the walls a greige color and installed a fireplace just last year.  Unfortunately, I haven’t tackled the family room makeover yet so there are several projects that have to be done in this room.  This includes completing the fireplace and painting it, picking out a an area rug, and painting the computer hutch which now resides in the family room.

Our family room is all about yellow and teal this Summer.  A variety of corked bottles from Joann Fabrics was used to make a aqua and yellow themed coastal mantel.  Using sea elements like Starfish and drift wood is a great way to show some coastal love. The little sea urchin succulent vases are actually made with vase fillers.  It is probably the easiest DIY project you can complete this Summer.

We have a gas fireplace, but that doesn’t mean we can’t use the firewood basket.  This thrift store find was repurporsed into a blanket and pillow holder.  Yes, the family still feels they need their snuggies even in the Summer months.

The yellow and teal extends from the fireplace all the way to the pillows.  I love these new pillows from HomeGoods.

I am so surprised to see this plant from Easter still alive.  I have a brown thumb and black pinky so it is a miracle that this plant is still thriving.  The plant looks at home with all the thrift store treasures on this side table.  I love incorporating refurbished thrift store treasures in my home.

The family room wall was bare for a very long time.  This past weekend, I was able to complete a gallery using the colorful canvas art from Michael’s as inspiration.  Read all about the gallery wall here.  Coastal prints from Kirklands and a thrift store planter tray help bring some natural elements the colorful gallery wall.

These gorgeous pink hues were repeated on the coffee table.  I adore this faux floral arrangement from HomeGoods.  I’ve noticed that I go to HomeGoods practically every week.

Did you notice the covered books?  I recycled some brown carryout bags to wrap around some books.   We love Chipotle around here, LOL.   I placed some lace stickers on one of the bags.

The room smells just like a coastal retreat when we light the Pineapple Cilantro candle from Yankee Candle.

The first floor powder room is the only bathroom to be touched up.  This was a long process, but it was truly the decorating process that took forever.  I fell in love with this dark navy color and wanted it for the bathroom.  Well, afterward, I realized that the wall would reveal splatter marks from the water.  In the future, I will be putting up a board and batten wall.

Thank you so much for visiting my casa!  I hope you enjoyed this tour on the progress of my home.  I welcome you to return and view the progress I have made on my other rooms.
