Coastal Family Room Gallery Wall

I know my posts have been scarce this week. There was an outbreak of Bronchitis that seem to only effect my toddlers, Pink’s Sweet 16 birthday party planning left me with only 3 hours of sleep a night, I also found out why teenage girls give their mothers headaches talking about boys, and of course there was still my daily housework. Thankfully, things have settled down here at Casa Watkins. I was even able to finish my Coastal Family Room Gallery Wall.

This wall has been neglected for a while. Several different designs were attempted that did not work for the space or feel of the house. This resulting in a bare wall for a VERY long time. From all the chaos this week, a colorful gallery wall emerged. I am so happy with the results.

Color is a must here in the casa. Having a neutral greige wall color makes any color item pop right off the wall. I came across this beautiful canvas art at Michaels the other day and fell in love. Just look at all those colors! This art piece has exactly the colors that I want to have expressed throughout the casa. Seeing as those we spend most of our time in the family room, it was the perfect room to show off this art piece. Did I mention that I bought it for $13.00!! It was on sale at Micheals for 70% off. You can’t beat that deal.

Gallery walls give you the opportunity to present all sorts of interests. I have a variety of decor incorporated in my gallery wall. Did you notice the all time reader favorite periodic elements family sign? This fun, geeky family sign has finally found a home in the family room.

You do not have to restrict yourself to photos or painted art pieces. I appreciate when other non art pieces are incorporated to make a cohesive gallery wall. This circular planter tray was perfect for the gallery wall. It brings in natural elements and offers an alternative shape to all the squared/rectangular pieces. The planter tray was a thrift store find for $2.50. A little much for a thrift store find, but it’s in great condition.

A framed trio of jars also brings in more variety to the gallery. The trio was also on sale at Micheals as a buy one get one free! Oh, the possibilities that await these jars. For now, they are sporting recycled flowers from the spring mantel.

The two coastal prints are from Kirklands. They were the perfect pieces to add more coastal vibes. I also found a set of jute rope fish from Kirklands. The fish could stand alone and maybe hung using a crystal knob hanger. I chose to make them into an art piece instead.

Have you tried using empty frames for a gallery wall? The dining room originally had a collection of yellow empty frames on the wall, but were replaced after my dining room makeover. The yellow color is so cheery and summery that they had to be used for the gallery wall. Tape a mat board to the back of the empty frame and hang around the jute rope fish for instant 3D art.

There is another big yellow frame that has yet to find a place to hang. Thinking it would look great hanging at my home command center. Looks like I have a project this week.
