DIY Lilly Pulitzer Inspired Plates for less than $3.00!

Hola amigos!
I have to admit that I was caught up in all the Lilly Pulitzer frenzy at Target.  I was very naive to think that there would be some items left on Monday morning, but sadly I left empty handed from three Targets!  I was determined to get the Lilly Pulitzer plates and a pillow.  No luck on the pillow yet, but I did see a fabulous print at Joann Fabrics this week that gives that Beach resort Lilly Pulitzer vibe.

Last week I bought six clear dessert plates that were on clearance for $0.70 each at Target.  I had a planned project for them, but I decided to use two of them after this week’s disappointing shopping trip.  I am so excited about how they turned out and they are so easy to make.

I had half a yard of the vibrant print fabric, but only used about 10 inches of it to make both plates.  You first want to trace the plate face down on the backside of the fabric.  Cut out your circle and do not worry if you cut a little outside of the circle.  You will be able to fix the edge once the mod podge has dried.

Apply one coat of mod podge to the underside of the plate then press your fabric circle with the print side facing the back of the plate.

Apply two more coats to the fabric and let it dry.  I flipped the plate over once the plate was almost dry to prevent any fabric bubbling.  You can also trim any fabric fraying once the fabric is dry.  It is so much easier this way and can prevent further fraying.

The total cost for the fabric was $1.50 and both plates total $1.40, which puts the total cost for both plates at $2.90.  Pretty great cost, huh.  So, don’t fret if you missed out on the Lilly Pulitzer for Target chaos, just make you own plates.

**I would suggest hand washing these plates.  The mod-podge I made holds up well, but I would not recommend placing them into the dishwasher.  There is a stronger outdoor mod podge which you could use if you plan to purchase your mod podge.  Otherwise, you can spray on a sealer should you want additional protection**

Thanks for stopping by my casa.
