Periodic Elements Family Sign

Hola everyone!
It’s been a while since I’ve wanted to do this project and I’m so pleased it turned out great.  Today I am sharing my periodic element family sign.  This idea all started when my teenaged daughter had to do a school project where she had to make words using the periodic table elements.  I noticed that you could do all sorts of word using the elements.  So, why not make a family sign?  It is so easy to do and won’t cost you a dime.

You first want to find a free periodic table image on the internet.  There are so many free tables that you could use.  Find the elements that are best suited to spell your name.  Zoom in and copy the image of the element.  You do not want to get any of the borders since you will be making one yourself.

Paste your image into a new Word document and repeat until you get your entire name.  Here you can see how mine turned out using the borders on the image.  I could not get the squares to line up at all.  **Tip: copy the image without the border then add a border to your image instead.**

I added a green border to each element and sized them all to 1.36 x 1.  Finish your piece with the word “family” in any script.  Or, you could add the popular “est. 2010” or the year your family was established.

All done!  Just print it out and place in a matted picture frame.  I scored this black frame in the thrift store for $5.00.  Not to shabby since the mat alone can cost $3.00.  I still haven’t decided the final resting place for my periodic element family sign.  I moved it around and its currently parked on my entryway table.
Thanks for stopping by and I hope you enjoy making this periodic element family sign.
