My Dining Room Makeover Planning

February is such a busy month for us.  We have 6 family birthdays and about 5 more friends who have birthdays in February.  I’m taking some time out of my chaotic birthday event schedule to plan out my dining room makeover as part of my 30 day room makeover challenge.

My dining room is not “bad,” but it definitely needs some revamping.  Ideally, I love colorful accents that are mixed in with some neutrals.  At times, I find that I get pulled toward very bold spaces.  Here is my dilemma.  I do not get tired of neutrals, per se, but I crave the bold accents.  I may go too bold in color, and get overwhelmed with colors and I immediately change the design.  I need to find a happy balance between the two.
Here is an example of what I mean.  The dining room below is a neutral beauty.  The soft gray wall paper and neutral slipcovers would keep my attention for a while.  However, the only pop of color in this room is coming from the greenery in the centerpiece and decorative vase.  I would feel very serene, but I need some excitement by way of some decorative pillows, napkins, etc.

On the other hand, this dining room is definitely bold and fantastic.  The patterns on the wall, curtains, and rug are definitely my style.  There are pops of color in the floral cushions, centerpiece, and even from the red frame on the wall.  Although I love this dining room, it may be too busy for my husband.

So where is my happy median?  Here are some examples of some great dining rooms that balance the use of bold colors.
This dining room has a base of neutrals from the walls to the fabric dining room chairs.  The lively, green china cabinet is fabulous against the taupe wall color.  The fabric panels on the back of the host chairs are stunning and ties in all the colors from the bird art prints.

Checkout this dining room.   From the fuchsia rug to the colorful art hanging on the wall, this dining room makes a colorful statement even with the neutral tone chair fabric and wall color.

I love how vibrant this room is.  The wow factors are the black and white striped chairs and light fixtures.  It transforms this room into a masterpiece.  The room would loose its impact if these wow factors were not present.

How gorgeous is this dining room?  This room could have gone so wrong, but it is beautifully styled with yellow and blue accents pulled from the colors of the wallpaper.

So here is my blah dining room.  I’d like to insert some bold accents and color.  The walls are a silvery blue color with plain white grommet curtains.

I still have my hideous attempt at an empty frame wall gallery up.  I never finished putting this together since I lost interest in it shortly after I completed the project.

I’m working on formulating a design board for the room.  In the meantime, here are a few things that I’d like to incorporate somehow.  I also have a pinterest board dedicated to inspirational dining rooms that you can check out here.

Thanks for stopping by,
