Easy Christmas Ornament Storage Tip

The Christmas season is finally over at Casa Watkins.  I typically wait until after El Dia de Reyes (Three Kings Day) which is on January 6 to start taking down all the Christmas decor.  El Dia de Reyes is celebrated by many Latin families to recognize the arrival of the three Kings who brought gifts to baby Jesus.  Nugget and Chi-Chi just started understanding what Christmas represents this year and still haven’t grasped the concept of the Reyes yet.  I’m already excited to celebrate the Reyes with them next year. I think they will be ready to fully understand its meaning by next year.

Stephanie’s tip: Store Your Ornaments by Color

Taking down the Christmas ornaments doesn’t take too long since they get placed right into a box.  However, the search for ornaments next year definitely does.  I prefer to organize my ornaments by color.  It’s easy for me to plan the tree colors and locate the necessary ornaments rather quickly if they are already in pre-packaged color coordinated boxes.  I highly encourage following this tip.  Not only does it make it quick to package and store your ornaments, but and you can also reduce the time moving boxes looking for specific ornaments.  Simply look for your box with Red, Gold, Blue, etc. ornaments and pull them out and leave the other color boxes in storage.

I have been storing my ornaments in this fashion for a while, though its usually been in recycled shoe boxes.  I wanted to invest in some nice ornament storage, but they were still pretty pricey even after Christmas.  I found some amazing decorated boxes that were only about $2.50 after the 75% discount from the original price of 11.99 plus an additional 15% off my total purchase with a coupon at Micheals.  They are pretty stable and durable boxes and can fit stacked into my larger Christmas box (it’s just a simple moving box).
The clear cellophane lid was perfect.  Not only can you see the contents, but you can also write on the cellophane with a permanent or dry erase marker.   You can write down any information about the ornaments (color, number of each, repairs needed, etc.) and erase it the next year if you want to change up the contents.
