DIY Dollar Aisle Valentine

Valentine’s day is quickly approaching and I realized that I am a little short on valentines this year.  I typically purchase clearance Valentine’s day cards for the following year.  This year, I decided to make some valentines instead of buying more.

Off to the dollar aisle at Target and the dollar store!!

I found 2 packs of 6 heart shape slinkies at the dollar store and thought they would be perfect for toddlers.  I know there will be loads of candy given out, so it would be nice if the kids received a little toy as well.

I made the printable valentine card which you can download and print on regular computer paper.  I planned to glue it to some cardstock, so I didn’t print it out on heavier paper.  I definitely recommend that you print on some medium to heavy weight cardstock if you don’t plan to double up the paper.

After you cut the valentines, you will need to cut your backdrop cardstock to make 3.5” x 2.75” squares.  I chose a vibrant fuchsia which complemented the print on the valentine as well as the color of the slinky.  Glue them together and then hole punch 2 holes on the top to tie the slinky.

Instead of ribbon, I chose to use this great cellophane bag I found at the dollar aisle in Target.  Make your ribbons by cutting open the bag on one side and the bottom to open the bag completely.

Cut strips the length of the bag and about 1/2 inch wide.  You can slip this right into the punched holes of your card and insert your slinky.

I added some glitter dots using some gold glitter glue I also found in the dollar section of Target.
There you have it, easy peasy diy valentines that you or the kids can make in a few minutes.
